Gaelic Football

Gaelic Football has been played for a number of years at Presentation. It is a very popular, enjoyable sport for our students.

Our school competes in the Post-Primary category of the “Ladies Gaelic Football Association” - “Peil na mBan” National Championship. We enter teams of all age categories; Under 14, Junior and Senior. The Senior and Junior Championship begins in the Autumn, while Under 14 begins in early Spring.

Training takes place at lunch time or after school on our school pitch. Matches are played both at home on our school pitch, and at various ‘Away’ destinations.

‘19 - ‘20 was a particularly successful year for Gaelic Football at Presentation Kilkenny. Our Junior Football team were crowned Leinster Champions on Tuesday 3 March 2020 beating Mt. Sackville Secondary School, Dublin in Clane. The girls staged a remarkable second half comeback which saw them claw their way back to a one point victory, eventually winning out on a scoreline of 1-14 to 4-3. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic the All-Ireland stages of this competition had to be cancelled meaning the girls did not get to challenge for the All-Ireland Title. We are very proud of the girls for this fantastic achievement.

Our Transition Year GAA Future Leader students were either on this team or were spectators in the stand. They used the skills they learned in this module to record the match, analyse the play and write up a match report.
