Basketball has been played in our school for many years. It is extremely popular with all new first years and their interest continues through to the senior years.

Our school enters the following teams; 1st year, 2nd year, U16 and U19 into the South East/ Midlands A league. U16 and U19 games take place before Christmas while 1st and 2nd years begin in January. We have been very successful over the last few years, winning a first year Plate All Ireland in 2016/2017 as well as winning the first year South East League in 2017/2018. This year our first, second and U19 teams made it to all Ireland play-offs but unfortunately were knocked out.

 

Faye Scanlon (5th year) was selected on the Irish U17 Basketball team which was a huge achievement for her.

 

This year we held a first year tournament in January to celebrate Nano 300 with other Presentation Schools.  It was held in the Watershed, teams came from the Presentation schools of Waterford, Ballingarry, Thurles and Clonmel.  Theresa Walsh, the President of Basketball Ireland, presented the medals to the winning teams of the shield and the cup finals- which, as it happens, were both won by Presentation Kilkenny! It was a great success and we hope to continue this tournament every year.

 

Training takes place in the watershed after school as well as at lunchtime in school.
